An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded a 16-year-old boy in prison custody over alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl.
The police prosecutor, Sgt. Olasunkanmi Bankole told the court that the accused committed the offence on Aug. 12 at about 11am at Igbede St., Omuo-Ekiti.
He alleged that the accused, on the said date, raped the 15-year-old girl (name withheld) who sustained injuries in the course of the struggle and had to be hospitalised.
According to him, the victim was sent on an errand by her mother to buy tomato at a nearby street when the accused grabbed her hand, saying he wanted to show her something in his room.
He added that the accused overpowered her, tore her pants and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her.
Bankole said the offence contravened Section 358 of the Criminal Code, Cap C 16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The prosecutor informed the court that the police had sent the accused’s case file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
Counsel to the accused, Mr Femi Olajide sought for a short adjournment pending the outcome of DPP’s legal advice.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Idowu Ayenimo consequently remanded the accused in Juvenile Children’s Home pending the advice from the DPP’s office.
He adjourned the case to Aug. 23 for further hearing. (NAN)
