A gory road accident occurred on the Kano-Zaria Road in the early hours of Monday, claiming the lives of 25 people and leaving 53 others injured. The crash happened at the Dangwaro Flyover, involving a trailer that lost control due to overspeeding.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the trailer was carrying 90 individuals, resulting in significant casualties and injuries. Fortunately, 12 people were rescued unhurt. Preliminary investigations suggest that overspeeding and loss of control by the driver caused the crash.
Rescue operations were promptly initiated by the FRSC, Nigeria Police Force, and other emergency response agencies. Items recovered from the scene include six motorcycles, ten mobile phones, animals, maize, and a sum of four thousand naira.
The Sector Commander, CC Ibrahim Abdullahi, warned drivers and motorists against transporting animals, goods, and human beings concurrently, emphasizing that it is an unsafe practice that endangers lives and contravenes traffic regulations. The FRSC urged all road users to adhere strictly to traffic laws and regulations to prevent further tragedies on Nigerian roads.
The victims of the road traffic crash have been transported to Murtala Specialist Hospital Kano for urgent medical attention.
