Henrikh Mkhitaryan said his sensational “scorpion” goal in Manchester United’s 3-1 win against Sunderland on Boxing Day was “the best I’ve ever scored”.
The Armenian, returning from injury, brought the house down at Old Trafford with a stunning piece of improvisation that his manager Jose Mourinho called “phenomenal”.
Mkhitaryan flicked up his right heel to connect with Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s cross for United’s third goal and said: “I had a great feeling. It was a little Christmas magic – the best I’ve ever scored.”
But United could make up no ground on Antonio Conte’s leaders Chelsea. Their 3-0 triumph over Bournemouth was a club-record 12th successive Premier League victory.
Manchester City moved into second spot after winning 3-0 at Hull, while Arsenal needed a late Olivier Giroud goal to beat West Brom 1-0.
