Atletico Madrid will make a move for Chelsea striker Diego Costa this summer, but only on one condition, reports claim.
According to L’Equipe, Atletico are eyeing Costa as a potential replacement for Antoine Griezmann, should the Frenchman leave the club this summer.
Costa has been the subject of interest from the Chinese Super League throughout the season, with reports stating the Spain international is considering a summer exit.
Diego Simeone is still a huge admirer of the ex-Atleti man and is ready to welcome him back with open arms.
Atletico Madrid are reportedly aware that Manchester United will pay Griezmann’s £86m release-clause.
However, the 26-year-old remains undecided on his future, whereas Costa is adamant that he would only leave Chelsea for one club.
“I will only leave Chelsea for Atletico,” said Costa, who has two more years on his Chelsea deal.
“If not, I will stay here. I’m not interested in other clubs. I know Chelsea want to sell players, but I told them, I have two years left in my contract and I won’t go somewhere else just because they want so.
“I will only sign for another club in Europe, they know that. Everyone knows my preferred club, there’s nothing to hide. Otherwise I’ll stay with my current contract.
“I have a contract and no intention of leaving. If there are changes to be made that might reduce my chances, if the coach won’t count on me any more or is to give space for another striker, I know I’ll have to leave. But only to where I’m willing to go.”
