According to a report from Spanish outlet AS this evening, La Liga side Atletico Madrid have secured the signing of Monaco midfielder Fabinho.
If true, the move will come as something of a shock, with Manchester United and PSG having been viewed as the clear front-runners for the signature of the versatile Brazilian.
The Red Devils were reported to have momentarily switched their attention to Fabinho’s Monaco teammate Tiemoue Bakayoko over recent days, though, while Monaco were desperate not to release one of their key men to a direct rival in PSG.
As a result, the possibility that the Ligue 1 champions may have been eager to complete a deal for their wantaway star as quickly as possible is very real, meaning Atletico could easily have swooped in undetected and completed the deal in just one day.
As per the report from AS, it is claimed that Diego Simeone’s side have seen a bid of 45 million Euro accepted by Monaco, with Fabinho set to arrive in the Spanish capital in January, following the completion of the club’s transfer ban.
