Alex Iwobi says he would talk to Tammy Abraham into dumping the Three Lions of England for the Super Eagles.
Abraham, a former England youth international that plays for Swansea City, is being persuaded by the Nigeria Football Federation to switch his allegiance to Nigeria.
The player, 19, recently denied talks of nationality switch with the football body, insisting he was available for England duty.
However, Iwobi, another former England youth international who switched to the Super Eagles in 2015, said the decision might not be easy for the lad.
According to the Arsenal man, Abraham would be making the best decision if he chooses to play for the Eagles, describing Nigerians as “welcoming.”
“Obviously it’s going to be difficult when you’re playing in your comfort zone, representing England,” Complete Sport Nigeria reports Iwobi as saying.
“Some of these players have been raised up in England and they play for England. So that’s all they know. If I get through to him I could talk to him but at the end of the day it’s not my decision; it’s for him to decide.
“However, for me switching, and Ola Aina as well it’s been great. Nigerians are very welcoming and you will enjoy your time. Personally, I’d advise Abraham and others to switch because they will enjoy their time playing for Nigeria.”
Iwobi scored the lone goal against Zambia on Saturday to ensure Nigeria qualified for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
