The Federal Government on Thursday said it would introduce solar-powered tricycles into the market.
This move would drastically cut down on the number of petrol-powered tricycles bought and used in the country.
This move by the FG was revealed by Mrs Anthonia Ekpo, Short Code Social Media App Committee chairman and representative of the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, during a courtesy visit to road transport workers.
He said the vehicles, popularly called Keke, are a more environment-friendly choice as they non-polluting and would be exhibited in December in Uyo.
He said: “Very soon, we are going to have tricycles that are technology-driven being used by Nigerians. We are going to have tricycles that are working with solar rather than fuel.”
The unions represented are the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) and Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Owners, and Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN).
