Olympic Marseille have suspended Patrice Evra with immediate effect after kicking a fan in the head.
The 36-year-old former Manchester United defender’s attitude was unacceptable, the club said on Friday.
“Marseille also denounced the unacceptable behaviour of some fans who hurled hateful insults,” the club said.
It was gathered that club president, Jacques-Henri Eyraud, had met with the defender to inform him of the suspension and warned that he could face further “disciplinary action.”
Evra was sent off after the assault during warm-up for Thursday’s Europa League clash at Guimaraes in Portugal.
