The Lagos State High Court in Igbosere has adjourned the trial of suspected kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme “Evans” Onwuamadike and other members of his gang till December 15, 2017.
The court also dismissed two applications seeking to quash charges of murder and illegal sales of firearms preferred against Evans.
The presiding judge, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo, in a ruling on Friday, described the applications as misconceived and lacking in merit.
The judge held that the proof of evidence filed by the state in support of the charges disclosed sufficient material worth pursuing by the prosecuting counsel.
Taiwo gave Evans time to hear the applications filed by Evans, challenging the court’s jurisdiction to try him.
Taiwo said Evans and his gang have case to answer on two separate charges filed against them by the Lagos State Government.
The two separate charges are on kidnap, pocession of firearms, murder and attempted murder.
Evans had on October 23, rebuffed attempt by the state government to arraign him and others on the ground that the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the charges.
However, Evans and his co- defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The court has fixed December 15, for prosecution to open it case.
