Liverpool have finally gained the service of Southampton skipper and centre-back, Virgil van Dijk.
The deal is reported to be in the region of £75 million, a world record fee for a defender.
“Liverpool Football Club can confirm they have reached an agreement with Southampton for the transfer of Virgil van Dijk,” read an official statement.
“The Reds have agreed a deal with the south coast club, and the player himself, that will see the 26-year-old defender move to Anfield when the transfer window re-opens on 1 January, 2018.”
Personal terms and a medical have been completed with the Dutch defender handed the No 4 shirt.
The deal was a long time coming after it fell through during the summer due to complaints of player tapping lodged by Southampton.
The player has also confirmed the deal on his Twitter account.
