Police in Abuja have dispelled reports that some persons were killed on Monday during a violent protest by members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN)
They also say 115 members of the shiite movement were arrested.
Members of the movement were demanding the release of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, who has been in detention since 2015.
He was arrested following a clash between followers of his group and soldiers in the convoy of the Chief of Army State, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, in Zaria, Kaduna state.
“No life was lost in the violent protest as the police operatives deployed to quell the protest were professional in handling the situation,” spokesman of the police DSP Anjuguri Manzah said.
