Former Liverpool star Steven Gerrard has described Mohamed Salah as the best player in the world following his effortless showing for the Reds in Tuesday’s Champions League tie with Roma.
Salah netted a brace just as he set up two more goals for Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino as the English side ran to a 5-2 win over the Italian team in the first leg of the encounter.
And Gerrard was full of praise for the former Roma star whose goals meant he has now notched up more strikers than any player in the top five leagues in Europe.
According to Gerrard, who spoke after the game, the Egyptian is on another level at the most, more much than any other player.
“He’s in the form of his life,” Gerrard told BT Sports after the game. “It’s difficult to compare him to your Ronaldo’s and Messi’s because they’ve done it for so long and they’ve been consistent year in, year out.
“But, without a shadow of a doubt, he’s the best player on the planet right now.”
Salah’s brace means he has now scored more goals than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues this season across all competitions.
The Egyptian international’s double against Roma also takes his Champions League goal haul to nine this term.
