The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has prosecuted 215 of its staff for malpractice.
Felix Enabor, administrative secretary of the body in Delta State, revealed this on Tuesday during an interactive session with religious leaders, saying the aim was to ensure the unbiased conduct.
Enabor promised to discipline any staff found wanting during the upcoming elections. “Any INEC staff that is caught would be disciplined, we have zero tolerance for corruption,” he stated.
Both Muslim and Christian leaders during the interactive session in the state canvassed for the need for INEC to beef up security in the region in order to have violence-free elections.
Enabor responding the leaders said the commission has put in place mechanisms to ensure politicians did not thwart its efforts in the state.
“Politicians mostly do a lot in the past elections to stop INEC from getting to the riverine areas, like buy off the boats a day before the elections. It would not be like that this time around,” he asserted.
