Abdulmumin Jibrin, member representing Kiru/Bebeji Constituency, has been arrested by Kano state Police command over attack on the convoy of a former governor of the state, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Okay Nigeria had reported on Thursday about the attacked by thugs on the convey at Kofa village in Bebeji local government area of Kano.
Five people were killed, while several others sustained injuries as the thugs from the two camps clashed.
Dan Bature, the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 1, and the state Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Wakili, on Friday went to the scene of the clash and ordered the arrest of the lawmaker.
Source in the police command confirmed to DAILY NIGERIAN that the lawmaker is currently being interrogated by the police at the command headquarters in Bompai.
However, It was gathered that the governor of the state, Abdullahi Ganduje, had on Wednesday pleaded with the commissioner of police not to allow Mr Kwankwaso stage the final rally, but the commissioner said he could not deny the former governor right without any reason.
The source said, “When the commissioner gave nod for Kwankwaso to stage the rally, Abdulmumin Kofa deliberately staged a rally at the area to deny Mr Kwankwaso passage through his village, but the crowd in Kwankwaso’s convoy overpowered them.
“The CP know exactly what happened. That is why he arrested the lawmaker.”
