President Muhammadu Buhari has forwarded his greetings to Nigerian Muslims as Ramadan 1440 AH begins on Monday.
Okay Nigeria had reported that the Sultan of Sokoto Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar called on Muslims in Nigeria to commence fasting after verifying the sighting of the new moon of Ramadan in several locations.
Meanwhile, Buhari in a statement made available to Okay Nigeria on Sunday evening, called for the continued peace, progress and prosperity of the country.
The president also urged Muslims to use the fasting period to build a relationship of friendship and harmony with fellow citizens of other faiths.
The command in chief who returned to Nigeria from the United Kingdom noted that Islam is a religion of peace that upholds the values of tolerance and mutual coexistence without a place for hatred and violence.
He prayed to Allah for the continued peace, progress, and the wellbeing of the country.
