Nigeria’s youngest senator, Elisha Abbo, has been captured assaulting a woman in a sex toy shop in Abuja.
Senator Abbo, 41, in a video footage obtained by Premium Times, visited the shop on May 11 with three ladies.
The lawmaker who represents Adamawa North accused the shop attendant of poisoning the air conditioner after one of the ladies he came with threw up in the shop.
The attendant refuted the senator’s claim saying that if the air conditioner were really poisoned, other people in the shop would be throwing up too.
Offended by that, Mr Abbo calls in a police officer believed to be from Maitama Area Command and instructs him to arrest the attendant, claiming he had been insulted.
The attendant picks her phone and begins to speak with her father about the incident but Abbo, a member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), quickly tells her to drop the call.
A friend of the attendant tries to intervene. “Oga, please take it easy now,” she said.
The Senator immediately flared up and hit her severally on the face. The attendant’s friend was later forced out by the police officer on the order of Abbo.
The assaulted woman, said to be a nursing mother, was taken to a hospital the following day where she was treated for eye inflammation and other injuries inflicted on her by the lawmaker.
Since the case was reported on May 14 at the Maitama Area Command Headquarters on Nile Street, the police have been reportedly negligent on the matter.
Abbo was said to have returned to the store to warn against releasing the footage of the incident.

Here are some reactions to the incident on Twitter…
To think that this PDP guy .was said to have “defeated”one of our most respected female parliamentarians, Senator Binta Masi Garba. The Senate must not protect him. He should be charged . The footage is enough evidence . He deserves to be in Prison https://t.co/6i944p55sj

A crime is an offence against the state. The possibility that #SenatorElishaAbbo may apologise or pay compensation to the young lady doesn’t remove the criminal offence against the state. It only settles the civil side. @PoliceNG must still prosecute…but my law is rusty.

The case of Senator Elisha Abbo is very straightforward: the Police MUST IMMEDIATELY take three steps: 1. Arrest him (no formal complaint is needed with the evidence on tape) 2. Obtain his statement (if he’s willing to make one) and that of the victim 3. Arraign him in court.

I don't really understand what cause the assault but every body deserves respect regardless of their position. A sales rep today may be a billion tomorrow and #SenatorElishaAbbo please learn to control your anger. Nigeria Police should please do the needful.

#SenatorElishaAbbo if Nigeria police @PoliceNG can not find the stupid senator……Nigeria military will find him.

#SenatorElishaAbbo was one of the champions in the 2019 elections in Adamawa state, but this act is a low, a crime and is a blow to Youths. He should face the law. Condemning this act should be void of political, religious, gender or ethnic undertone.
