Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Ademola Adeleke has expressed his disappointment with the verdict of the Osun Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, which declared the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) Adegboyega Oyetola as the winner of the July 16 poll.
The tribunal annulled the results of the election, citing non-compliance by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with the constitution and the Electoral Act.
In a statement released from his country home in Ede, Adeleke faulted the resolution of the over-voting question in favor of Oyetola, calling it “an unfair interpretation against the will of the majority of voters.”
He also expressed that the judgement was not a true reflection of the outcome of the election.
Adeleke urged his supporters to remain calm, and announced plans to appeal the judgement at the Court of Appeal.
He emphasized that he remained the rightful winner of the July 16 election and is determined to retain the mandate that was widely acclaimed by the people of Osun State.
“I call on our people to remain calm. We will appeal the judgement and we are sure justice will be done. Let our people be reassured that we will do everything possible to retain this widely acclaimed mandate,” Adeleke said in the statement.
