The Department of State Services (DSS) has announced the interception of members of organized criminal groups involved in the illegal sale of the newly redesigned Nigerian naira notes.
In a statement by DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya, the Service also revealed that some commercial bank officials have been found to be aiding this economic misconduct.
The DSS has warned currency racketeers to stop these illegal activities and has called on regulatory authorities to increase their monitoring and supervisory activities to quickly address this growing trend.
The Service has also ordered its Commands and Formations to identify all individuals and groups engaged in the illegal sale of the new notes.
Afunanya urged anyone with relevant information about the illegal sale of the new naira notes to report it to the authorities.
The DSS is committed to taking strong action against anyone found engaging in illegal activities related to the nation’s currency.
