On this episode of The Voice Nigeria, David Ikande, Martins “Marrzz” Asogwa and Tejiri Agbroko deliver outstanding performances for Team Waje.
Each season of The Voice Nigeria begins with the Blind Auditions. During the auditions, coaches form their team of 12 artists whom they mentor through the remainder of the season. Successful artists from the Blinds then proceed to The Knockout Stages. Each artist’s performance during the Knockout Stage is adjudged by their coach and one of these is decided:
- The artist is in the Safe Zone (which means qualified to go the Battles), OR
- The artist is in the Danger zone (which means the fate of artist hangs in the balance until all other performances are concluded).
- Both decisions are exclusive calls made by the Coach only.
The Voice Nigeria: Knockouts
Your Tone is Unbelievably Magical
Niyola
David Ikande, the Wedding Singer from Episode 3, delivered an impressive performance when he sang “Fallen” by Alicia Keys. David’s powerful voice and magical tone serenaded the coaches and thoroughly impressed Coach Waje.
“You Give Me Something to Be in Awe Of”
Waje
Similar words were spoken to Martins “Marrz” Asogwa, the singer who has been nicknamed “The Voice” on the competition. Martins who sang “You Raised Me Up”, delivered a rendition so powerful, that it received a standing ovation from the coaches. This graciously guaranteed him a spot in the next round.
Tejiri Agbroko, the spectacular talent from Episode 1 sang “Rise Up” by Andra Day – a Voice Nigeria “Favourite”. Tejiri did justice to the song in a stunning performance that was adjudged as: Phenomenal, Captivating and Breathtaking. You may recall the faultless rendition of the exact song by the previous season Winner, Esther Benyeogo, that got everyone talking.

All 3 talents, David, Tejiri and Martins secured a spot in the Battles Round.
Thrills and Steals
Faith Jason brought to bear his lover boy emotions when he performed “Count on You” by Johnny Drille. Faith’s sweet-sounding serenade was pleasing enough to place him in the Battles Rounds for Team Waje. Busayo Fapohunda however, was not as lucky. Busayo’s performance of “Wait in Vain” by Reggae Legend, Bob Marley failed to convince Coach Waje of a spot in the Battle Rounds. The singer who is notable for his entertaining and jivy performances was sent to the Danger Zone.
Stephen Onochie, the impressive singer from last episode, performed “Stuck on You” by Lionel Richie. Stephen’s performance although powerful was not as thrilling. This left Coach Waje with a reserved judgement to send this artist to the Danger Zone. Stephen however was spared from the uncertainty of the “Danger Zone” when Coach Praiz hit the “Steal” Button.
That wasn’t the only steal for the night for Team Waje as Coach Niyola in a similar fashion to Coach Praiz, made a “steal” for soulful singer, Deborah Folasade on her way to the Danger Zone. The excitement of both singers explained it all.

Big Songs, Big Voices
Chika, Jochebel, Emmanuel, Chris, and Matthew. These singers with “big voices” had some big shoes to fill when they performed some notoriously difficult songs. Chika risked it all when he sang “One Night Only” from The Dream Girls to scale through to the Battles. Chris Ade was sent to the Danger Zone after his performance failed to convince Coach Waje just yet. And the same fate awaited Emmanuel after he performed “Fire on the mountain” by Asa. Jochebel Pepple was tested when she sang the uphill “I Will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston in a performance that left a lot to be desired.
Matthew Abah closed the night as he performed the hit song “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman. Away from his comfort zone, the classical singer pulled through to deliver a theatrical rendition that was strong enough to keep him on the show. In the end, only 7 artists made it through to the next round and Busayo, Emmanuel, and Chris bade farewell to the Season. Watch here.
