Manchester United headed into the game having seen three of the four teams around them drop points already this weekend.
As a result, a win vs their bitter rivals would have been huge for the Red Devils.
And when all was said and done, Manchester United snatched a win.
Leeds had the first chance of the game after three minutes when a loose ball fell to Summerville but Malacia did just enough to force the winger to smash his effort over.
Leeds’ fast start continued for the opening 15 minutes, with Manchester United struggling to get the ball out of their own half.
Harry Maguire then nearly gifted Leeds a great chance but the centre-back was able to recover as Jack Harrison had no support.
David de Gea then made a good stop to deny Summerville late in the first 45, before Meslier denied Bruno who was through on goal with a big save of his own in first-half injury-time.
Harry Maguire gave the ball away early in the second 45 to gift Leeds a chance, which Harrison put wide.
After a poor start to the second 45, Erik ten Hag opted to bring on Lisandro Martinez and Alejandro Garnacho. Diogo Dalot then smashed an effort off the crossbar a few minutes after these changes, with Garnacho playing a key role in setting up said chance.
Another mix-up at the back from Manchester United allowed Summerville yet another chance but De Gea saved well again.
However, the Red Devils eventually took the lead with 79 minutes gone. Shaw floated in a cross, which Rashford headed in.
Garnacho then added a second after 84 minutes to secure United the win.
