The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented certificates of return to Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima, declaring them as the president and vice-president-elect, respectively.
The presentation ceremony took place at the International Conference Centre in Abuja.
Tinubu and Shettima, both of the All Progressives Congress (APC), emerged victorious in the presidential election held on Saturday, having secured a total of 8,794,726 votes.
Their closest rival, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), polled 6,984,520 votes.
In his address at the event, Tinubu expressed his gratitude to the Nigerian people for their support during the campaign, saying, “The road has been long, yet we worked it. The battle has been hard fought, yet we won it.”
Tinubu further stated that his certificate of return symbolises the potential of every Nigerian to achieve their aspirations.
He assured the people that he would work tirelessly to ensure the development of the country, saying, “By taking this sacrifice, I accept a sacred duty. I will work day and night to make Nigeria better. We are committed to the progress and development of Nigeria.”
