Real Madrid will face Chelsea in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, while Manchester City will play against Pep Guardiola’s former team, Bayern Munich.
The draw, which took place on Friday, also pitted Serie A leaders Napoli against AC Milan in an all-Italian match-up, while Inter Milan will face Portuguese league leaders Benfica.
The winner of the Real Madrid versus Chelsea tie will face either Manchester City or Bayern Munich in the semi-finals, which could potentially result in an all-English last-four encounter.
This also increases the possibility of seeing an Italian team reach the final for the first time since Juventus in 2017, as Inter Milan will play either AC Milan or Napoli in the last four if they manage to beat Benfica.
The first legs of the quarter-finals will be played on April 11 and 12, with Real Madrid hosting Chelsea at the Santiago Bernabeu first, followed by the return leg at Stamford Bridge a week later. Manchester City will be at home for the first leg against Bayern Munich.
Initially, Inter Milan were drawn to play Benfica at home, but the fixture was switched to avoid a clash with AC Milan’s match against Napoli at San Siro. Consequently, Inter Milan will now travel to Lisbon for the first leg.
The semi-finals are scheduled to be played in May, with the final set to take place in Istanbul on Saturday, June 10.
