The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the collation of results for the Enugu State governorship election will resume today, Wednesday, at 5 pm.
The commission had earlier suspended the collation of results on Monday after a review of the election process.
According to Festus Okoye, a National Commissioner of INEC, the results from Nkanu East and Nsukka local government areas in Enugu state were suspended for further review.
He also noted that the collation of results in Obingwa local government area of Abia state was suspended due to an invasion by thugs.
Okoye further stated that a review of the results will be undertaken before the process is concluded. He assured the public of INEC’s commitment to ensuring that the results are transparent and credible.
The Enugu State governorship election was a closely contested race between the Peoples Democratic Party’s Peter Mbah and the Labour Party’s Chijioke Edeoga.
The collation of results from the various polling units in the state has been ongoing since Saturday, with both candidates neck and neck in the race to emerge as the Governor-elect of the Southeastern state.
