Basketmouth and AY Makun are two of Nigeria’s biggest comedians who have been making people laugh for years.
However, there have been rumors of a falling-out between them, and it seems that the speculation has been confirmed.
During a question-and-answer session hosted by AY, a fan asked about the rumored beef between the two comedians, and AY gave a hint about the strained relationship between him and his colleague.
However, in a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, AY opened up about what really caused the rift between him and Basketmouth.
According to AY, the falling-out occurred back in 2006 when he stood in for Basketmouth at a gig. Basketmouth had double-booked himself, and AY was asked to stand in for him at one of the events.
Afterwards, AY requested the N30,000 payment he was owed but was told that the person who hired Basketmouth had not paid. When AY contacted the person, they said they had already paid in full before the event.
This led to a dispute between AY and Basketmouth, with AY insisting that he be paid the N30,000 he was owed. Basketmouth, on the other hand, accused AY of stirring up trouble and not being a loyal friend.
The situation escalated, and the two comedians stopped working together.
AY explained that he tried to reconcile with Basketmouth years later, but Basketmouth refused, saying, “I’m a beast, I don’t forgive.”
Despite this, AY maintains that he has no ill will towards his former friend and hopes that they can someday patch things up.
