The President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, has expressed his eagerness to cooperate with Nigeria’s newly sworn-in President, Bola Tinubu, in a bid to strengthen the ties between the two nations.
President Biden’s statement was released on Monday, extending warm wishes to the government and people of Nigeria on the occasion of the inauguration of their new President.
President Tinubu, alongside Vice President Kashim Shettima, took the oath of office administered by Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kayode Ariwoola, marking a historic moment for the country.
In the official statement, President Biden emphasized the importance of collaboration in fostering economic growth, advancing security measures, and upholding human rights.
He stated, “On behalf of the people of the United States, I send warm wishes to the government and people of Nigeria as they inaugurate a new President. I look forward to continuing this work with President Tinubu to support economic growth, advance security, and promote respect for human rights.”
President Biden’s message also highlighted his optimism regarding the potential of the dynamic connection between the United States and Nigeria. Acknowledging Nigeria as Africa’s largest democracy and economy, he affirmed that Nigeria’s success would contribute to global progress.
President Biden emphasized, “As Africa’s largest democracy and economy, Nigeria’s success is the world’s success. Elected leaders owe it to their people to show that democracy can deliver for their needs. And the United States will continue to work closely with Nigeria, as a friend and partner, to deliver a more peaceful and prosperous future for our world.”
