Real Madrid has officially terminated the contract of Eden Hazard. The decision was mutually agreed upon by both parties and was announced on Saturday.
Real Madrid issued a statement on their club website, expressing their gratitude and best wishes for the departing player.
“Real Madrid CF and Eden Hazard have reached an agreement whereby the player will be released from the club as of June 30, 2023,” the statement read.
“Real Madrid wants to express its affection for Eden Hazard and wishes him and his entire family the best of luck in this new stage.”
Hazard’s time at the Bernabeu has been far from smooth sailing since his arrival from Chelsea in 2019.
The talented Belgian winger, who was expected to make a significant impact, failed to live up to the high expectations placed upon him.
Despite the challenges he faced, Hazard did manage to achieve some success during his four-year tenure in Spain.
He secured several major titles, including the prestigious UEFA Champions League, Club World Cup, European Super Cup, two La Liga championships, one Copa del Rey, and two Spanish Super Cups.
