President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria is set to embark on his first foreign trip since assuming office.
Tinubu will join leaders from around the world in Paris on Thursday to participate in the highly anticipated Paris Summit for the New Global Financial Pact.
The summit, convened by French President Emmanuel Macron, will take place at the prestigious Palais Brongniart.
A statement issued on Monday by Dele Alake, the Special Adviser for Special Duties, Communication, and Strategy, revealed that President Tinubu’s participation in the summit aims to prioritize support and investment in vulnerable countries. The devastating impact of climate change, the energy crisis, and the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic necessitate urgent action.
During his visit to Paris, President Tinubu will actively engage in discussions, review proposals, and ultimately sign the New Global Financial Pact. The agreement aims to provide vital assistance to nations facing short-term financial challenges, particularly those burdened by high levels of debt. The leaders at the summit will explore innovative financing options to help countries vulnerable to climate change. Additionally, they will focus on promoting development in low-income nations and encouraging investment in green infrastructure for a smooth energy transition in emerging and developing economies.
Dele Alake further explained that the summit will take a comprehensive approach to address the economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Global leaders, multilateral institutions, financial experts, and economists will collectively analyze strategies to combat poverty and facilitate inclusive growth. Access to finance and investment will be at the forefront of discussions, aiming to leverage these resources for sustainable and equitable development.
President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria on Saturday. Accompanying him on this crucial trip will be members of the Presidential Policy Advisory Council and senior government officials.
