President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Mrs. Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi as the Mandate Secretary for the recently established Women Affairs Secretariat of the Federal Capital Territory Administration.
The announcement was made by the Chief Press Secretary of the FCT, Anthony Ogunleye, in a statement released on Monday in Abuja.
Mrs. Benjamins-Laniyi’s appointment comes as a result of her “exemplary qualifications and dedication to public service,” according to the statement.
With over 35 years of experience as a communications consultant, social entrepreneur, international mentor, and environmentalist, Mrs. Benjamins-Laniyi is expected to bring a wealth of knowledge to her new role.
Born in 1965 in Ogun State, Mrs. Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi received her secondary education at Queens School in Lagos and graduated with a degree in English from the University of Ibadan in 1989.
Her political journey within the ruling All Progressives Congress saw her contest for a senatorial seat in 2022.
She currently holds the esteemed position of Grand Matron at Hope Again for FCT Women in Politics, where she actively mentors and encourages women in the political sphere.
Mrs. Benjamins-Laniyi is recognized for her significant contributions to society as a prominent compere and renowned motivational speaker. Her profound commitment to social issues, particularly those affecting women and children, is evident in her outstanding work.
Chief Press Secretary Ogunleye highlighted, “Her deep understanding of the political landscape and her ability to navigate complex policy challenges will undoubtedly contribute to advancing women’s rights and well-being in the Federal Capital Territory.”
Mrs. Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi’s appointment adds strength to the formidable administrative team led by the FCT Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, and Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, further solidifying the commitment to gender empowerment and effective governance in the FCT.
