The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is the primary security and law enforcement agency in Nigeria, with officers in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The NPF has a long history that dates back to 1861, when it started as a 30-man security group in Lagos. Over the years, the NPF has undergone several transformations and reforms, and now has seven administrative departments, each headed by a Deputy Inspector-General of Police.
The NPF has a hierarchical structure that starts with the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) at the top and ends with the Constable at the bottom.
The ranks, symbols, duties, and salaries of the NPF officers vary according to their level and years of service. In this article, we will answer some of the frequently asked questions about the NPF ranks and salaries.

The current IGP is Olukayode Egbetokun, who succeeded Usman Alkali Baba in 2023.
