14 hours after an accident that claimed the life of her mother, an 18-month old baby girl has been found alive in a car.
The child was discovered hanging upside down above water in her car seat by a fisherman on Saturday afternoon, and was rushed to a hospital in Salt Lake City, where her condition has been upgraded from critical to stable.
Her 25-year-old mother, Lynn Groesbeck from Springville, was however not as lucky as she was found dead in the driver’s seat.
Investigators believe the vehicle plunged into the Spanish Fork River after hitting a cement barrier on Friday. A fisherman found the girl the following day dangling above the water as it flowed through the car and raised alarm.
3 police officers and 4 firefighters entered the river to rescue the child and were later treated in hospital for hypothermia.
