Nigerian music sensation Davido has taken to his social media platforms to address and dispel circulating rumours about his alleged arrest, clarifying that the reports are entirely false.
The award-winning artist, who has been on an African tour, found himself at the center of an April Fools’ Day prank that falsely claimed he had been detained.
In a statement shared on his social media accounts, Davido expressed his disappointment over the misleading information that caused widespread concern among fans and media outlets.
“SETTING RECORD STRAIGHT ON FALSE ARREST REPORTS,” the statement began, as Davido reassured his followers that the reports were entirely unfounded.
He confirmed that he had successfully completed his performances in Uganda and Kenya as scheduled and had safely returned to Nigeria without encountering any legal issues.
Davido took a firm stance on his clean legal record, asserting, “I have never been arrested by anyone in any country for any crime in the world. Not my home Nigeria, my home America, or any of the hundreds of countries I’ve made home throughout my career.”
Expressing his disdain for the false allegations, particularly under the guise of April Fools’ Day, Davido stated that his legal team is actively pursuing action against the media entities responsible for spreading the misinformation.
“I find the fabrication of allegations of such international crimes extremely irresponsible regardless of the light of ‘April Fools’, and my lawyer is seeking legal recourse against the media parties responsible for generating this misinformation,” he affirmed.
In concluding his statement, Davido extended his gratitude to his loyal supporters, expressing, “Thank you for your continued support. Our blessings are from God. I love you all.”
