The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has shed light on the arrest of popular Nigerian cross-dresser, Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, better known as Bobrisky.
The controversial social media personality was apprehended by EFCC operatives on Wednesday evening in Lagos State.
Addressing the media on Thursday morning, EFCC spokesman, Mr. Dele Oyewale, confirmed Bobrisky’s arrest and provided clarification on the circumstances surrounding the agency’s actions.
Naira Mutilation Allegations
According to Oyewale, Bobrisky’s arrest was not motivated by his lifestyle choices or identity as a cross-dresser.
Instead, the EFCC’s interest was solely focused on allegations of mutilating Nigerian currency notes, an act considered an economic crime.
“It is true our boys arrested him yesterday evening in Lagos for naira abuse,” Oyewale stated. “We don’t have anything to do with his lifestyle (being a cross-dresser). He was suspected of committing an economic crime, and that was the reason for his arrest.”
