The United States reiterated its unwavering support for Israel on Monday, pledging to stand by the nation to prevent any escalation in hostilities with Iran.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken underscored this commitment during a meeting with Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister, Mohammed Ali Tamim.
Blinken emphasized that Israel would not be left alone to defend itself against Iran’s aggression, stating, “We don’t seek escalation, but we’ll continue to support the defense of Israel and to protect our personnel in the region.
“What this weekend demonstrated is that Israel did not have to and does not have to defend itself alone when it is the victim of aggression, the victim of an attack.”
The statement comes in the wake of a weekend barrage launched by Iran, involving over 300 drones and missiles aimed at Israel.
The attack was purportedly in retaliation for a strike on Iran’s consulate in Syria on April 1, which resulted in casualties among Iranian generals.
A significant portion of the missiles and drones were intercepted, largely due to the collaborative efforts of the US, France, and other allies.
