Nigerian singer Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, known professionally as Iyanya, has responded strongly to a social media user who downplayed his musical achievements while discussing the reputation of fellow artist Wizkid in the music industry.
The exchange occurred on Twitter when a user with the handle @itzbasito remarked, “Wizkid’s only crime is surpassing the benchmark set for him and becoming the benchmark himself.”
Another user, @Xperience_Snr, reposted the comment, suggesting that expectations for Wizkid were for him to surpass artists like Iyanya and Samklef.
Responding to the insinuation that his career didn’t meet expectations, Iyanya fiercely replied, “You will end up like your father.” This retort underscores the frustration felt by the singer in light of the comparison.
In a separate post, Iyanya expressed his dismay over the negativity present in the online space, stating, “This space is toxic, y’all just wake up and undermine a creative’s years of work.”
