Nigerian Breweries Plc has officially launched the 10th edition of the Maltina Teacher of the Year competition, themed ‘A Decade of Inspiring Excellence in Teaching’.
The flag-off ceremony took place on Thursday in Lagos, marking a significant milestone in celebrating the dedication and commitment of Nigerian teachers.
Grace Omo-lamai, Human Resource Director at Nigerian Breweries, highlighted the importance of this competition in recognizing and appreciating the tireless efforts of teachers.
“Today marks the beginning of another journey to appreciating, celebrating the tireless effort, dedication and unwavering commitment of our teachers,” she said.
“Maltina Teacher of the Year competition presents an opportunity to express our gratitude to teachers for the sacrifices they make, the extra hours they invest, guidance and mentorship they provide to ensure the success of our youth. Through this competition we aim to recognize the efforts of teachers in the countless ways they have shaped our future.”
Omo-lamai also noted that the competition has received endorsements from various educational authorities, including the federal and state ministries of education, the Nigerian Union of Teachers, the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools, and the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria.
In her words: “It is important to note that this year’s edition has also received endorsement from the federal ministry of education, state ministry of education, the Nigerian Union of Teachers, All Nigeria confederation of principals of secondary schools and the Teachers registration council of Nigeria.”
Sade Morgan, Corporate Affairs Director, announced that the competition is open to teachers in both private and public secondary schools. The grand prize for the winner is N10 million in cash, along with other prizes. The first and second runners-up will receive N3 million and N2.5 million, respectively.
To be eligible for the competition, participants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a teacher in an accredited secondary school, either private or public.
- Must not be over 55 years old.
- Must be fully registered with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).
