Finidi George has resigned from his position as the coach of Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles.
This announcement was made by former Super Eagles media officer, Toyin Ibitoye, in a post via X on Saturday.
Ibitoye wrote, “News just in. Finidi George #FinidiGeorge_FG has resigned from his #NGSuperEagles manager position.”
George’s resignation follows the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) decision to appoint a foreign coach to oversee him, despite his recent appointment in May.
The decision to bring in an external coach comes after the Super Eagles’ disappointing performance in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin.
George, 53, stepped into the role after the contract of previous coach Jose Peseiro ended in February. George had served as Peseiro’s assistant for 20 months before taking the helm.
However, the team’s struggles in the World Cup qualifiers led to his demotion, prompting his resignation.
