Nigerian singer and songwriter Simi has announced the upcoming release of her fifth album, ‘Lost and Found,’ set to drop on July 5. The ‘All I Want’ hitmaker shared the news with her fans via an Instagram post on Tuesday, unveiling the album cover and reflecting on the personal journey behind the project.
Describing the album as “a symbol of finding parts of myself again,” Simi revealed that ‘Lost and Found’ represents her reconnection with her “passion for music, melodies, and love stories.”
In an emotional message, Simi opened up about the challenges she faced in recent years. “For most of my life, I have enjoyed the privilege of knowing myself deeply, unwaveringly and truly. In more recent years, I have endured the discomfort of losing myself,” she wrote. “Sometimes to make room for something else that I needed to be – other times, because I could not, for the life of me, find my way. I felt like a stranger to myself. This version of me has been the hardest one to look at in the mirror.”
The album, she said, is a testament to rediscovering herself. “Making this album is a symbol of finding parts of myself again and I hoped I hadn’t lost permanently. I don’t believe that we ever stop finding ourselves. If you’re willing to look, there’s always more. This is a tribute to the things we continue to find and rediscover.”
Simi emphasized the personal nature of her music. “When I sing, I do it first for me then for you. In this order, because I can’t give what I do not have. ‘Lost and Found’ is about me reclaiming my chemistry with music, melody, and love stories. I hope you feel it too when you listen. I hope you enjoy it, regardless of the journey that brought it to you. Experience it, knowing that nobody brings you what I can, what I have, what I will. ‘Lost and Found,’ the album, out July 5th, 2024.”
Simi began her career as a gospel singer and gained widespread recognition in 2014 with the release of ‘Tiff,’ a song nominated for The Headies 2015. She signed with X3M Music in 2014 but left the label in 2019 after her contract expired.
