Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero has thrown his support behind Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr. as the deserving recipient of the 2024 Ballon d’Or award.
Aguero highlighted the Brazilian international’s impressive performance during the 2023/24 season as the key factor in his endorsement.
Speaking to Stake, Aguero stated, “I think the award should be Vinicius. He had a great season, winning the La Liga title and the Champions League, too, with a goal to go with it.”
Aguero emphasized Vinicius’s pivotal role in Real Madrid’s success, noting his contributions that led to securing both the La Liga and UEFA Champions League trophies.
Vinicius finished the season with an impressive tally of 23 goals and 11 assists across all competitions for Los Blancos.
Aguero also compared Vinicius’s performance to that of other contenders, mentioning Jude Bellingham as a strong start but noting his dip in form towards the end of the season due to injury.
“Bellingham started out really well, towards the final, after his injury, his performance waned a little,” Aguero added.
