The newly sworn-in Caretaker Committee Chairmen for the 23 Local Government Areas of Rivers State have assumed duties, dissolving all standing committees in their respective councils. The chairmen, appointed by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, pledged to pay outstanding salaries owed to their predecessors.
The chairmen, who dissolved all task forces set up by the ousted council chairmen, promised to focus on human capital development, economic empowerment, employment generation, and security. They also vowed to embark on infrastructure development and provide grants for small and medium-scale enterprises.
The chairmen urged their committee members to be dedicated and honest in their duties, promising an all-inclusive government that would empower young people, the elderly, and women. They directed the revenue director to take charge of all revenues pending the appointment of new committees.
This development follows the swearing-in of the caretaker chairmen by Governor Fubara, who urged them to promote peace and work from anywhere for the time being.
