President Paul Kagame has secured a fourth term in office, winning 99.15% of the votes in Monday’s presidential election, according to provisional results from the country’s electoral commission.
With 79% of ballots counted, Kagame’s opponents, Frank Habineza and Philippe Mpayimana, received less than 1% of the vote each.
The election saw a turnout of 9.5 million voters, out of a population of 14 million. Kagame’s victory is expected to be confirmed when the final results are announced.
