The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, has called on Nigerians to exercise patience with the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking on Tuesday during a visit from Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady, at his palace in Lagos, Akiolu emphasized the president’s commitment to grassroots development and national progress.
“All that I am saying and appealing to is that we should pray for Nigeria and the president,” the monarch was quoted in a statement by Busola Kukoyi, the media aide to the First Lady. “We should be patient. Everything good needs prayers.”
Akiolu also addressed the youth, urging them to be industrious and to foster a closer relationship with God. “Though some youth are incurably lazy and are always waiting to be spoon-fed, teach them not to always wait for fish but learn how to fish themselves,” he advised.
The monarch reiterated his long-standing position that Lagos, as the former capital of Nigeria, deserves a special status.
In response, Oluremi Tinubu reassured the monarch and the people of Lagos of her husband’s dedication to the nation’s welfare. “I assure you that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will do well for this country,” she said. “He loves Nigeria and Nigerians and will do the best for them.”
Oluremi also acknowledged the request for Lagos to be granted a special status, promising that it would receive attention from Lagos representatives in the National Assembly.
The First Lady was accompanied to the palace by the wives of several governors, ministers, and national assembly members.
