The developers behind Gemini have announced a series of updates designed to enhance user productivity, creativity, and curiosity. With the latest upgrade, Gemini is now more efficient and versatile in helping users achieve their tasks.
Faster, Smarter Responses with Gemini 1.5 Flash
Gemini users can now enjoy the benefits of Gemini 1.5 Flash, which is available in the unpaid version. This upgrade promises quicker and more helpful responses, significantly improving the quality and latency of interactions. Whether drafting compelling emails or debugging code, users will experience better reasoning and image understanding.
The free-tier experience now includes a quadrupled context window of 32K tokens, allowing for more extended conversations and complex queries. Users will soon be able to upload files via Google Drive or directly from their devices, enabling functionalities like creating practice questions from study guides or analyzing data files to uncover insights and visualize them.
Gemini 1.5 Flash is accessible to users on both web and mobile platforms, in 40 languages, across over 230 countries and territories.
Related Content Within Gemini’s Responses
Gemini is also enhancing its role as a research partner by providing links to related content for fact-seeking prompts. This feature, aimed at reducing hallucinations, allows users to explore websites and verify information directly within Gemini’s responses. Available initially for English language prompts in certain countries, users can click on chips at the end of paragraphs to access relevant websites or emails.
This update builds on the double-check feature, which uses Google Search to verify responses, highlighting corroborated or contradicted statements and enabling users to delve deeper into the information.
Gemini Features in More Places
Starting today, Gemini will be available in Google Messages across the European Economic Area (EEA), UK, and Switzerland, supporting newly added languages like French, Polish, and Spanish. Users can start brainstorming, plan trips, and more, all within the Google Messages app.
Additionally, the Gemini mobile app is rolling out to more countries, allowing users to access Gemini’s help on the go.
Expanded Access to Gemini for Teens
In the coming week, Gemini will be accessible to teenagers globally in over 40 languages. Teens meeting the minimum age requirement for managing their Google Account can use Gemini to enhance their understanding of school subjects, prepare for university, or get creative project assistance. This expansion includes additional policies, safeguards, a teen-specific onboarding process, and an AI literacy guide to ensure safe and responsible use.
Collaborations with child safety and development experts, including MediaSmarts (CA), Miudos Seguros na Net (PT), and Fad Juventud (ES), ensure that the unique needs of teens and families are met.
Responsible Design of Gemini
Gemini’s development is guided by a commitment to responsibility and user safety. Detailed policy guidelines reflecting AI Principles are now available, outlining Gemini’s approach to handling complex and sensitive topics, including public interest issues, and political, religious, or moral beliefs.
Users can start exploring these new features and enhancements in Gemini today, with more updates expected at the upcoming Made by Google event.
