The Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed support for the planned nationwide protest scheduled for August. Obi, a former Anambra State Governor, emphasized that the Nigerian Constitution guarantees the right to protest, but warned against violence and urged demonstrators to operate within the law.
During a visit to Abia State Governor Alex Otti, Obi acknowledged the difficulties faced by Nigerians and called on authorities to engage with protesters and listen to their concerns. He stressed that protest is a global right and encouraged security agencies to provide cover for demonstrators while maintaining a lawful approach.
Obi’s support for the protest comes as Nigerians prepare to demonstrate against hunger and hopelessness among youths. The planned protest has sparked debate, with some calling for calm and others urging authorities to address the underlying issues driving the demonstration.
