President Bola Tinubu has appealed to protesters not to allow themselves to be used by enemies of democracy to truncate Nigeria’s democratic journey.
In a nationwide broadcast on Sunday, Tinubu emphasized the importance of protecting the country’s 25-year-old democratic governance.
The president’s statement comes after photos and videos emerged of protesters in Kano waving the Russian flag and calling for Russian intervention in Nigeria. The incident has raised concerns about potential external influences on the country’s political landscape.
Tinubu did not directly reference the Russian flag incident in his speech but warned against promoting unconstitutional agendas.
He emphasized the need for unity, hope, and progress, stating, “Let us work together to build a brighter future for ourselves and for generations to come… Do not let the enemies of democracy use you to promote an unconstitutional agenda that will set us back on our democratic journey.”
