Abdul Samad Rabiu, industrialist, philanthropist, and founder of BUA Group, has extended a donation of ₦2 billion to aid flood victims in Borno State, Okay.ng reports.
This is in response to the recent devastating floods in Maiduguri and President Bola Tinubu’s call for private sector support.
The donation, which includes ₦1 billion in cash and ₦1 billion worth of essential food supplies, is aimed at providing relief to displaced persons and communities severely affected by the floods. A delegation from Rabiu visited Maiduguri to deliver both the food items and the cash donation.
Rabiu, who also chairs BUA Group and founded ASR Africa, expressed his commitment to supporting Nigerians during times of crisis.
“The recent flooding in Maiduguri has caused untold hardship for thousands of families. I believe it is my responsibility and that of my organisation, which is deeply rooted in Nigerian society, to act swiftly and meaningfully in providing relief to those affected,” Rabiu said. “This ₦2 billion donation is one way of supporting the most vulnerable in times of crisis.”
The ₦1 billion worth of food items includes flour, pasta, sugar, rice, and other essential commodities, which will be distributed to the hardest-hit areas to provide immediate relief. The ₦1 billion cash donation was presented to the Borno State government through the governor to ensure rapid distribution to those in need.
Rabiu’s philanthropic initiatives through BUA Foundation and the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) have consistently demonstrated his commitment to supporting communities across Nigeria and Africa, particularly during crises. This contribution is part of a broader effort to aid recovery and rebuilding in flood-affected regions.
In collaboration with government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders, BUA Foundation and ASR Africa will continue to monitor the situation and ensure that resources reach the people of Maiduguri to help them recover.
Rabiu also urged other corporate organisations and individuals to join the effort, stating, “Our thoughts are with the families and individuals who have been affected by this disaster. We urge others to join us in restoring hope and rebuilding lives.”
