The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched an investigation into allegations of bribery leveled against some of its officers by Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, in a viral video.
The video, shared by Martins Vincent Otse (also known as VeryDarkMan), claimed that EFCC officers collected ₦15 million from Bobrisky to drop money laundering charges against him, Okay.ng reports.
The order for the investigation was issued by EFCC Chairman Olukoyode and confirmed in a statement released by the agency’s spokesman, Dele Oyewale, on Tuesday night.
Bobrisky, an ex-convict, alleged in the video that unnamed EFCC officers accepted a bribe of ₦15 million to abandon money laundering charges against him.
In response, the EFCC chairman swiftly constituted a team of investigators to thoroughly examine the accusations.
“To this end, the commission hereby invites both Okuneye and Otse to make themselves available at its Lagos Directorate to assist investigators unearth the alleged bribery,” the statement reads.
The EFCC further assured the public that the allegations will be diligently investigated and that the findings will be made public.
“The Commission is committed to its core values of integrity, courage, professionalism, and collaboration at all times,” the statement concluded.
