Andrés Iniesta, the legendary former Barcelona midfielder, is set to officially retire from professional football on October 8, 2024, marking the end of an illustrious career that spanned over two decades.
The 40-year-old playmaker, widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, hinted at the announcement in a teaser shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday.
“Coming soon 8/10/24,” Iniesta wrote, sparking widespread anticipation among fans and the football community.
Iniesta’s remarkable career saw him make 674 appearances for Barcelona’s senior team, during which he scored 57 goals and provided 135 assists.
He played a pivotal role in leading the club to 32 major trophies, including nine La Liga titles, four UEFA Champions League titles, and six Copa del Rey victories.
