The Zone 16 Police Command in Bayelsa State has apprehended three suspects for alleged internet fraud and possession of illicit drugs.
The suspects, identified as Billion Ndubuisi, Charles Amachree, and Martins Chinemike, were arrested in the Rumukparali community, Obio/Akpo Local Government Area, Rivers State.
In a statement released on Saturday, Gunn Emonena, spokesperson for Zone 16, revealed that the arrests followed a police operation based on credible intelligence.
During the operation, officers recovered wraps of illicit drugs suspected to be Indian hemp, two vehicles, two laptops, and 10 mobile phones from the suspects’ premises. Emonena also disclosed that the suspects attempted to bribe the police operatives with $17,000, which was rejected.
“The suspects, through their agent, offered the sum of $17,000 bribe, which was rejected by our well-trained, reformed officers,” Emonena stated.
“The money is registered and will be tendered as exhibits in court.”
Upon interrogation, the suspects admitted to impersonating a U.S. citizen, Ryan Bill, to defraud foreign nationals of $71,500.
