Former Big Brother Naija housemate Natacha Anita Akide, popularly known as Tacha, has revealed why she recently relocated to the United Kingdom.
Speaking in an interview with British media personality Madame Joyce, Tacha said her move was driven by her success in Nigeria and her desire to explore new opportunities abroad.
“I relocated to the UK because I have conquered the whole of the Nigerian market,” Tacha stated. “Relocating to the UK doesn’t mean I’m not going to do Nigerian deals. If the offer is good, why not?”
Tacha also shared insights into the challenges faced by influencers in Nigeria, noting that the financial rewards no longer match the effort required. She described how the earnings from brand deals have stagnated despite rising costs.
“The influencing scene in Nigeria looks so beautiful, but behind the scenes, it’s not as beautiful as it seems because the money is poor,” she explained. “Someone would pay you ₦6 million, that’s around $3,000, for you to influence for six months and post two videos a month.”
The reality star added that while ₦6 million seemed reasonable after her appearance on Big Brother Naija in 2019, the current exchange rate and rising costs have diminished its value. “It made sense then. At least, you could book a plane ticket with it. But right now, $3,000 is nothing. ₦6 million seems good, but when you have to convert it to dollars, travel abroad, and spend money to look good, there’s nothing left,” she said.
Tacha, who gained fame as a contestant on Big Brother Naija Season 4, has remained one of the most influential figures in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
