Acclaimed filmmaker and actress Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi has expressed heartfelt gratitude to her fans for the overwhelming support of her latest movie, Alakada Bad and Boujee, which has grossed over ₦50 million at the box office in its opening weekend.
In a lengthy post shared on her Instagram, Toyin thanked her supporters for their unwavering love, subtly taking a jab at industry practices where gifts are offered to entice fans to watch films. Although she didn’t mention specific names, her comments have sparked speculation, with some fans pointing to actresses like Funke Akindele and Mercy Aigbe, who have been known to distribute gifts during cinema screenings.
“With an overwhelming outpouring of love, kindness, and compassion from fans all across the country, we were able to make this as our opening weekend figure. Thank you for watching and supporting us,” Toyin wrote.
“Without expecting gift or inducement at the box office to buy our tickets, you’ve stood by us, and we are deeply grateful,” she added.
Despite the success, Toyin highlighted a challenge her film is facing, noting that it is not being shown in many cinemas. She urged her fans to spread the word about the movie and keep the momentum going.
“Nigerians, thank you from the bottom of my heart! This support means the world to me. Please, let’s keep the momentum going—spread the word far and wide, Alakada Bad and Boujee is showing in all the cinemas. I love you all endlessly,” she wrote.
Alakada Bad and Boujee is the latest installment in her Alakada franchise, which has gained a loyal fan base over the years.
